ABOUT the Indaba
There is an increasing awareness that engineering is at the very heart of sustainable development and growth. Our planet has been showing signs of suffering severe stress in various areas. The name of the game and the game itself have changed.
SAICE is calling an Indaba where government and a variety of stakeholders can meet and seek solutions through sharing, learning and building decision-making capacity.
Issues at the heart of the discussions:
- 'Green' Policy (Policy for Sustainability)
- Capacity requirements
- Water resource planning
- Sanitation using appropriate technologies
- Transportation - roads/railways for rural development
- Rail links for effective and affordable transport for people (urban and rurual), coal, food/produce, etc. countrywide
- Service delivery by local authorities regarding water, sanitation, electricity, waste management
- Environmental concerns/courts
Are we indeed PLANNING FOR PROSPERITY?
How can South Africans achieve synergy between political will and technocratic execution? This HAS to be achieved as no infrastructure creation or maintenance is possible without technocratic intervention. Civil engineering (and other disciplines) is at the heart of SERVICE DELIVERY.
